Nature’s beauty but not without the pain

We have had a few months of lambs playing in groups right outside the back door and finally they get separated from their mums. The three days or so of crying across the fields is heart wrenching.
Today I walked past a lamb on its side twitching and shaking. I called the farmer who told me it had been injected twice but was best left alone to stand a chance of recovering. I know the economics of farming don’t match well with my simple ‘pets’ view of the world, but I’d have happily paid the vet’s bill to give it the best options if I’d been allowed.
